HAM FAIR NEWS

Snakes, Stalls and Sunshine – Ham Fair 2025

On Saturday 14th June, Ham Fair returned for its 41st year. It was a lovely summer’s day and the event once again proved to be a much-loved highlight of the local calendar, drawing large crowds from across the area.

Rooted firmly in tradition, Ham Fair is a community event at heart, providing a space for local schools, churches, charities, and families to come together. It also offers an excellent platform for small businesses and craftspeople to showcase their work—alongside bric-a-brac stalls for those hoping to find a hidden treasure.

Crowds gathered on hay bales to watch a full programme of performances, including the traditional Morris dance by pupils of The Russell School and a fantastic show by Year 6 choir from St Richard’s. Performances from talented local bands continued throughout the day.

There were some unique attractions this year too, including the chance to sit in a Harrier Jumpjet cockpit, explore the history of the local Hawker factory, and browse an impressive collection of vintage bicycles. One of the biggest hits with younger visitors was the snake and reptiles stall, where children could learn about and even handle a variety of exotic creatures.

As always, food played a big part in the fair, with a wide selection of dishes from different cultures on offer, and delicious homemade cakes, quiches, and hot dogs—many prepared and served by local churches and scout associations.

The success of the 41st Ham Fair served as a reminder of what makes this part of Richmond so special — a welcoming atmosphere, active local involvement, and deep-rooted tradition.
